The Stable House & The Lodge
Wormley, Hertfordshire

Overview
Having purchased part of the farm as an investment, our clients wanted to build their dream home. They purchased a classic portal frame hay barn with some very badly built stables attached to it.
Converting the barn with the frame was a real challenge, however as we used BIM software to model the property and land, it did assist us in finding the solution.
After many design workshops, we finally created the layout for a 4-bedroomed family home - including an open plan ground floor with central staircase wrapping up to the new top floor of the barn structure. The farm is at the top of a hill so the views will be stunning from the key living spaces facing down the valley.
A larger L shaped stable at the top of the land has been realised into another 2-bed home (The Lodge), on land they have discarded as unusable due to the right of access to the adjacent main farm house.
The Stable House and The Lodge take on differing architectural forms due to their in-situ conversions. They both offer a modern interpretation of rural building whilst embracing key sustainability features as a part of our design ethos.
The development creates landscape and ecological enhancements as well as a sustainable urban drainage design, improving the surface water management of the site and wider area.
