The Old Rectory
Brentwood, Essex

Overview
Wanting unity to be brought to their Georgian property, we removed the poor-quality additions and added a quality one to the rear. This assisted with the creation of a suitably sized main bedroom suite and modern super living space.
The chamfered overhang acts as solar shading to the full width glazing, providing daylight and views across the open rear of the house. To the side, we have created a homework room, connected to the hub of the house so the client’s 3 young children can be checked on, yet concentrate away from distraction.
The first floor extension creates a larger main suite with roof dormers added to flanks to provide two double bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
A new relocated staircase provides access to the first floor and a second staircase removed to provide more usable downstairs space and bring drama to the ground floor with double height and new roof light above. It enabled us to maximise the
the second floor children’s rooms via the new flank dormers.
Staircases in so many of our designs are the key to unlocking better interior layouts, and in this project it absolutely does!
• The new terrace at the rear is sunken, for that late night glass of wine after a bbq
• Georgian building design to the front - replacement aluminium sash windows
• Thermal upgrade throughout with outbuilding housing the PV panels
• Air source heat pump with underfloor heating
• Mystique brick and Athrazinc cladding
