Robin Hill House
Loughton, Essex

Overview
With a family of 6 our clients wanted to create a family home with 'wow' factor. Tucked away behind the trees, the property had a great location but the appearance was tired, uninspiring and didn't offer modern living.
Our design is formulated around a new central core housing the staircase, and an inset roof terrace for morning coffee as the sun rises. The lateral form of the house allowed us to weave the accommodation needs of the family across the 2 existing and the newly formed third (adult) floor, utilising as much as we could of the existing key structure of the house.
The modern architectural language of the house was formed by the dormers, expressed cantilevers with timber chamfers and the chamfered render detailing on the external insulation, as part of the sustainable upgrade - making what was a very flat facade, more interesting with definite character.
- Cantilevered section to main living room with picture window
- Anthracite zinc and Parklex timber cladding chosen for longevity and style
- Contemporary longitudinal dormer to rear to allow for main suite and home office on the adult floor
- Air source heat pump
- Aluminimum box gutter with hidden downpipes so no rainwater pipework to the elevations
