Overton Drive
Wanstead, East London

Overview
When our clients purchased this Victorian house, they needed more family space and a better overall flow to the home. Our solution was a simple yet contemporary ‘cube’ form extension with a material split.
The creative use of corner glazing, both on the ground floor and on the first floor, and the introduction of a new roof light further allows the home to be penetrated with natural light from different angles at different points in the day.
The material palette was chosen to make a statement yet becomes fluid with the existing house. A well-considered choice of brick sits well within its context and ties the palette of the existing house together. The modern anthra-zinc cladding sits boldly and the choice of dark green window frames to the rear ties it all together.
Adding on to a property does not need to be tame or undesigned, it can in fact make a property highly desirable.
