Planning Granted for a Sustainable House in New Forest National Park

We are delighted to have received planning approval for our project Mole End situated within a SSSI forested section of the New Forest National Park conservation area.
We proposed that the existing house be demolished as its construction was of poor quality as well as being a mix of styles with no architectural merit. Extending or refurbishing the current bungalow wouldn’t allow us to improve its thermal performance, and we want to create a home which will assimilate naturally into its unique locality, using environmentally friendly materials.
The new Mole End will be a modern interpretation of the existing 1920´s bungalow, designed to minimise heat loss, incorporating high-performance renewable energy features such as an Air Source Heat Pump (replacing the non-efficient oil boiler), PV’s to capture the sun & a rainwater harvesting tank for grey water re-use.
The house will be constructed using SIPS panels which uses 35% less timber than traditional building methods and is sourced from FSC accredited plantations. Due to the efficiency of construction, cold bridging is minimal, resulting in 50% less energy use to heat a typical room and reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
These measures in combination with the ecological enhancements of the site and the carefully selected material palette, creates a beautiful sympathetic building that is positive environmentally as well as contextually.
New Forest National Park planning adds a layer of complexity and includes different requirements. The Council’s policies and standards seek to retain, protect and enhance existing landscape features of biodiversity value. Tree and Ecology survey’s are required to demonstrate how a proposal can improve the environment. Proposals within the National Park must show how they will have a positive affect by design upon the Conservation Area. Clear Architects are adept at producing design-led proposals which meet the Council’s exacting standards, whilst providing our clients with the homes they desire. Our 81% success rate on planning applications within National Parks and the Green Belt speaks for itself.
