We are extremely pleased to have gained approval for St Lawrence. Yet another exceptional scheme which sings loudly of the company’s ethos surrounding sustainable design.
The development involves the bespoke design of four Passivhaus standard family homes for individuals of the same family, with a shared subterranean pavilion, situated in the Hertfordshire Green Belt. Our core design was borne from the sites topography, ensuring amongst other key design drivers, that we minimised excavation works, ultimately reducing the carbon footprint of the proposal.
The overall concept is unique to the site and will exist in harmony with the locality, using innovative engineering systems to harness the energy provided by nature. The scheme includes ground source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels to reduce energy consumption. A rainwater harvesting system will gather rainwater from the roofs, storing it within an underground tank to be used for the flushing of wc’s, watering the garden and car washing, the excess will be directed to the retention ponds to the lower part of the site.
Our design combines traditional and modern aesthetics seamlessly, using traditional materials in a contemporary way so the proposal remains familiar to its verdant surroundings but still stands in its uniqueness. St Lawrence for us is a reminder of the exceptional sustainable standards which are possible with intelligent design.
As a Net Zero Architect, we are passionate about creating designs which look beautiful whilst being kind to our planet. This is important for all of our futures. The built environment currently generates nearly 50% of annual global omissions. Net Zero achieves operational and embodied carbon of zero impact on the planet – where no carbon is given into the atmosphere by the buildings in operation nor construction. We are part of the RIBA Climate Challenge Team striving to have ALL new buildings achieve Net Zero by 2030, 20 years earlier than the UK Government.
