We are very pleased to have received planning approval for an exciting redevelopment of a mixed-use Victorian building within the Chelmsford Conservation Area. Our plans will revitalise this dilapidated property, which has stood empty since Covid. The original Victorian frontage will be restored providing updated commercial premises to the ground floor. At the rear, a series of badly designed extensions will be demolished to create 6 new luxury apartments across the 2nd and 3rd floors.
The restored building will present a reflection of the two faces of the Conservation Area with a beautifully refurbished frontage facing Duke Street and its historic neighbours, and a stunning modern addition to the rear which emulates the contemporary buildings within the vicinity. The proposal makes more efficient use of this urban site, providing much needed new housing in an area with good existing infrastructure.
Sustainability and energy conservation is at the forefront of the proposal, to bring forwards a build which is energy efficient and climate restorative. The proposal through the use of timber frame construction extensions and high performance windows will enable the use of renewable technology, such as solar panels and air source heat pumps. This will dramatically reduce carbon emissions, and energy usage of the property.
This is exactly the sort of mixed-use scheme in which Clear Architects excels, pioneering the use of well designed, low carbon efficient homes within urban infill sites. Get in contact with us if you have a similar site to develop, happy to discuss.
