We love the challenge of working on Listed Buildings! It’s all about finding innovative solutions that allow us to sensitively restore and revive these heritage wonders whilst working within the guidance set by Historic England and the local Planning and Conservation departments.
So we are thrilled to have received Listed Building Consent to fully upgrade and replace the original Georgian sash windows at Grade II Listed Grove House in Essex with FINEO glazing – the first approval of its kind in this area.
FINEO is a new glass technology and a perfect solution for heritage applications, it gives the appearance of single glazing but with the performance of triple glazing. For Grove House, we will replace and restore the original timber sash windows which are in very poor condition.
The new windows will not only vastly improve the aesthetic appearance of the property but will provide a significant increase in thermal efficiency leading to energy savings, and warmer living conditions. Noise pollution from the street will also be significantly reduced.
FINEO’s Heritage range offers an extremely authentic appearance of historic single glazing being only 7.7mm thick. It insulates as effectively as triple glazing but is lighter and thinner meaning it can be installed into existing window frames without altering the appearance. We always try to work as sustainably as possible and love the fact that FINEO glazing is 100% recyclable and has a long life expectancy (several decades) without any loss of performance. It also blocks 99% of UV rays so reduces discolouration of interior furniture.
Our London Architects worked with Wandsworth Sash Windows on this proposal who have a long history of working and gaining Listed Building Consent for restoration or replacement windows. Their bespoke hand-made joinery can accurately replicate any period, preserving the original appearance, which is vital when working with a Listed building.
