Essex Life magazine has celebrated the work of female architects in their latest issue, leading with our very own Melanie Clear. From early routes into the industry through to the changing face of architecture, the article looks in detail at what makes female architects tick, including their inspirations and favourite projects.
Looking ahead at what the 21st century has to offer, Melanie commented “as David Attenborough has been saying for years, we are now at a precipice and any designs MUST be sustainable. That is not just with materials, but how we are building, the context and affect of the site, and how buildings operate. All of this needs to work in conjunction for betterment of the site. No matter the size, we need to consider the impact of our designs, to ensure that the ecology and landscape of a site is improved by design and development. The design of any building is not just about aesthetic, it’s how all of the facets of design can blend together to make true architecture once again. We reference history when studying architecture and we need to look back to step forward with designs that are embracing our world and do not change it for the worse. We can and need to do better”.
